You'll be surprised how many crumbs, bits and pieces.and even money, you'll find wedged down the cracks of your furniture, so once or twice a week vacuum your upholstered furniture (sofas amd chairs, etc) to maintain its attractiveness and cleanliness to it's fullest.
Everyday, shake out your cushions and fluff them up before rotating them and turning the around ensure even and equal wear on both sides.
Reduce the amount of food that's permitted to be consumed on the furniture itself; insist that greasy foods and crumby snacks should be eaten elsewhere, either on the floor or at a table (dining table for example).
Keep all pets off of your upholstered furniture to prevent the build up hair that fuses itself with the entirety of your chairs! However if you're a soft touch and don't mind the hair as long as you can remove and clean it, then stick on a rubber cleaning glove and roughly wipe the fabric in one direction. The hairs adhere to the glove, enabling you to move the hair to a single point and vacuuming it up afterwards with ease!
Fresh stains - if dealt with quickly - can be easily removed by smearing shaving foam (cream) over the tarnished area and scrubbing with a clean, dry cloth. Dry it afterwards with a hairdryer to rid the area of any leftover marks and the dirt will be gone. If shaving foam is unavailable to you at the precise moment of the spill or stains, then create your own cleaning-formula by mixing together:
* 125ml of standard Washing Detergent with 1 Pint of Boiling Water
* Allow it cool for a while until the solutions becomes a gel-like texture
* Once this transformation occurs, whisk it with a whisk (manual or electric)
* The gel then turns into a shaving foam texture enabling you easily remove the stain in the exact same way as the shaving foam method above!
Smothering Oily or Greasy stains with talcum powder and allowing it to set for a short period of time can easily remove these types of upholstery marks. The powder will absorb the grease or oils in the process enabling you to either vacuum up or brush off the powder afterwards with ease. Simply wipe down afterwards with a clean, damp cloth to remove excess powder or white marks and the job is done.
Velvet and Corduroy upholstery - even with regular cleansing and vacuuming - dirt, dust and general filth seems to somehow still get lodged in between those small slits. Try cleaning this material by buffing it with a piece of damp Chamois Leather to remove all those tricky bits and piece from all those tine nooks & crannies.
Dust, fluff and dirt also stick to curtains and blinds like a magnet, and if not cleaned and maintained once a week, could make the entire room look shabby, whether the rest of the room is spotless or not: The most effective way to remove the dust from regular curtains, roller and vertical blinds is to simply vacuum them with the correct attachment, however, if you own a set of Venetian blinds, then make sure that all the slits are pointing the same direction, and then vacuum and wipe down this side with a damp cloth. Once you've done this side, simply rotate the slits so that the opposite side is facing you now, and then vacuum and wipe down this side so that both sides are now spotless and dirt-free.
