Before you begin dusting, dampen your cloth or duster slightly, not to the extent that it's sodden or water's dripping from it, but just enough so that when wiping surfaces down, it leaves a nice clean, slightly moist area. The reason for this is that the dampness of the duster attracts significantly more dust that a dry duster, which has a tendency to manoeuvre the dust around.
As you work your way around each individual room, take a plastic bag of some sort with you and collect any rubbish or unwanted bits and pieces from the sides before dusting the entire surface. This is another way of saving valuable time without having to run back and forth to the nearest bin. Place everything in the plastic bag and then continue dusting the now rubbish-free surface.
Here's a good one for you; if you've got household plants scattered throughout your home, then - just like all surfaces - they must be dusted. Regular dusters or cloths do indeed work, however, try using the inside surface of a banana skin to rub gently over the leaves themselves to dust and re-nourish them in a much more effective way!
