Removing Corrosion from Brass Fittings

Over time, Brass corrodes to an unattractive dull brown colour. Standard brass polish will usually bring the shine back to internal brass fittings but external brass fittings (door furniture, etc) may require something a little more powerful to remove built up corrosive deposits.

Mix 1 tablespoon of salt with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar into 275ml of hot water. Using very fine wire wool, apply the solutions liberally to the areas of corrosion. Wash the metal off with hot water containing a small amount of washing up liquid, then rinse and dry before polishing. Repeat the process if corrosion remains.
