Maintaining Stopcocks and Gate Valves

Although not prone to wear, stopcocks and gate valves should be checked occasionally. If either fails when you need them, you could be in for a mess. Periodically check that both the main stopcock and any gate valves are working correctly, opening and closing smoothly when turned. If they seem stiff, lubricate with a little penetrating oil.
